Cantine Aperte: All the Open Wineries in Piemonte, Expo 2015, & Instagram Contest

This year, Piemonte will be part of Open Wineries on May 30 and 31 (while other regions will be holding their events during the first days of June, too). Take part in wine tastings, hikes through vineyards, and more with friends and family – the event is open to everyone. Some of the initiatives in the program include guided visits through wineries with tastings, lunches and dinners with winemakers, art exhibits, food and wine pairings, bicycle outings, hiking, and more. It’s an ad hoc weekend that every wine tourist can plan according to his or her own preferences. Plus, there will be several events directly tied to the Expo 2015 theme, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.”

All of the events will have one thing in common (besides wine, of course!): the Instagram contest “Bevi cosa vedi e vedi cosa bevi,” or “Drink what you see and see what you drink.” The contest was launched in Vinitaly this year and already has 680 cellphone pictures sent in by wine lovers from around the globe. The challenge, which is in collaboration with Instagramers Italia, will continue until July 22, 2015, when judges will select the best 5 photos to be used August 10 with the nationwide event Calici di Stelle.  Use the hashtag #bevicosavedi to take part, and click here to read more about it.

This year, Movimento Turismo del Vino wants to focus on deepening our knowledge of Italy’s wine territories and the launch of wine tourism as an international experience. Wine travelers come from all over the world, and the offerings from wineries throughout Italy are becoming ever more integrated with consumers’ wishes – but can more be done? The approach that will be examined will be that of winery visits that include a special something that makes a consumer fall in love with wine. This might be the story of the producer, the winery’s long history, or its place in this beautiful country that now boasts the most UNESCO sites in the world (50) – the most recent of which was given to the viticultural landscapes of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato in Piemonte.
