Wine in Sanremo Wine in Sanremo

An appointment in Sanremo on October 10-12 with over 600 wines from all over Italy and a full program of events and tastings.

Taste the emotion. This is the slogan for the first edition of Wine in Sanremo, held in the “city of flowers” on October 10-12, 2015. The event will be open for both industry experts and wine enthusiasts with the intention of promoting a wine culture that has become increasingly multifaceted, yet characterized by one common denominator: the thrill of tasting and discovery.

The Fair: Wine in Sanremo

The heart of the event will be at the Palafiori. The Wine in Sanremo fair opens to the public on October 10 at 11:00 am, with over 100 winemakers coming from different Italian regions and over 600 wines for tasting. The invited wineries have been selected from among the best in Italy, deliberately diversifed according to region and type, in order to offer the visitor the widest possible overview of the Italian wine world. It is in this light that the Palafiori will be hosting a rich program of wine tastings led by AIS and FISAR sommeliers. The tastings will be unique opportunities to get to know excellent Italian wines: among which will be Rossese di Dolceacqua and Moscatello di Taggia, pearls of the Imperia territory; as well as a grappa and cheese pairing guided by ONAF, and an exceptional vertical tasting dedicated to thirty years of the renowned Barbera Bricco dell’Uccellone.

Events held outside of the fair

Wine in Sanremo will also be offering a full program of events outside of the fair designed to help build a multi-disciplinary dialogue around wine. The program includes an analytical viewing of films by Jonathon Nossiter, Mondovino and Resistenza Naturale. There will also be presentations and conferences dedicated to the theme “wine and health.” With its rich calendar of events – from cinema to research, and sports to wellbeing – Wine in Sanremo aims to offer its public a wide range of ideas for looking at wine in new and different perspectives.

How Wine in Sanremo began

Wine in Sanremo began as an initiative by a group of entrepreneurs from Sanremo. Among these was Roberto Verrando, the heart and soul of the initiative, president of the association Wine in the Theater (Vini in Teatro) and owner of an historical wine shop in the city. “Wine in Sanremo is a project that began with a strong territorial identity, but at the same time, it has an even wider vision. The local public, friends, and wine enthusiasts often asked me why our city didn’t have an event that offered a wider range of opportunities in the Italian wine world. It was a need that eventually attracted the public from the French Riviera, as well.”

The City of Sanremo believed in the project immediately, according to the Mayor Alberto Biancheri and Assessor of Tourism, Culture, and Events Daniela Cassini. “We’re very happy to host the first edition of 'Wine in Sanremo.' It’s a new event for the city of Sanremo that, on the one hand, address the gastronomic specialties of our zone. On the other, it embraces the national territory, with a glimpse of international specialties. In particular, this festival allows us to discover over 600 wines that will be presented by prestigious winemakers from all parts of Italy. It’s a unique occasion for our city, which will become a showcase with high impact. Wine in Sanremo will not only be about the emotions tied to wine, but also takes into account physical activity and wellbeing. For example, there will be a non-competitive race open to locals that will take place on October 11 along the biking and pedestrian sidewalk, another great aspect of our territory. In short, this three day event has the potential to become the flagship event of our city.”
