Barbaresco Barbaresco

Discover the best places to drink a glass of wine in the zone of Barbaresco. Modern and traditional styles mix to create charming, unique, and intimate locales.

High quality, intimacy, attention to detail

The wine zone of Barbaresco is a rather small area of the Langhe, and a visitor can pass through it all in just a few hours. But it has an elegant side that echoes its famous wine, a noble yet intimate style that can be found in every corner of this small zone. One excellent example of this is its wine bars – not many, to tell the truth – that effectively convey countryside warmth and friendliness with a touch of international urbanity. Enjoy (with moderation) our favorite places in this famous wine zone: it’s Barbaresco, baby!

Prima e Poi, Tornavento

 Prima e Poi, Tornavento

Opened in 2013, Prima e Poi is the only wine bar in the town of Barbaresco itself. It’s managed by the same people as La Ciau del Tornavento, a starred restaurant located in Treiso from which the bar takes its name, which means “sooner or later.” Guests are served by Koki, a Japanese student of La Ciau del Tornavento’s acclaimed chef Maurilio Garola, and a passionate degustatore of Piemontese cuisine.

The wine list has Barbaresco labels accompanied with cold tasting dishes. In the evenings, the wine bar organizes themed events with special food and wine. The interior of Prima e Poi is welcoming, and in warmer weather it opens up to the picturesque piazza, the perfect place to pass a warm spring or summer evening in good company.

DeGusto, Neive

 Degusto Wine Bar

Andrea Gallo would like his guests to feel at home. He’s attentive to the details that make his wine bar DeGusto warm and inviting, and he is a personable host to all guests that enter. Trained by chef Camia, he has traveled the world while working in hotels and restaurants and found that hospitality is in his blood as much as his passion for good wine. Informal and pleasant, DeGusto, which opened in 2011 in the historical center of Neive, has a rich wine list that includes spumanti and champagne, Italian and international wines, and a special section highlighting classic Piemontese wines. The kitchen is managed by Alessia, Andrea’s sister, who loves experimenting and revisiting traditional dishes.

Profumo di Vino, Treiso

 Profumo di vino

In the small but charming village of Treiso, Profumo di Vino is a jewel of a wine bar and restaurant. Not just a place to stop for a glass of excellent wine, the hospitality and unique decor (notice the corks displayed in various artistic designs) invite guests to linger. More than that, though, is the Piemontese cuisine served, with well-thought-out dishes and absolutely sublime aperitivi. The owner, Guillermo Field Melendez, is polite and very friendly, an expat Mexican who fell in love with the Langhe and its wines. He personally chooses every bottle available in his wine bar, and frequently changes the wines available for tasting, all of which are characteristic of the territory and the fruit of small producers of the Langhe. Guillermo (who goes by Memo), chef and sommelier, is truly an expert: let him recommend a wine for you and you won’t be disappointed.

Wine Plus: The flowers that decorate the tables are made from corks and wood from wine barrels; if you sniff them, they still carry the perfume of wine.

I Love Ba, Neive

I Love Ba, Neive

It’s hard to find a place more intimate and selective. I Love Ba is both an osteria and wine bar located one of the characteristic homes of the historical center of Neive with miniature rooms, steep stairs, and vaulted brick ceilings supported with wooden beams. It has an authentic family atmosphere that gives it its particular charm. With a good selection of wine labels, the owners also offer simple and tasty cuisine of the beloved Langhe tradition. The wine bar also contains a small shop of local delicacies and occasionally turns into an art exhibition area with photography, pictures, book presentations, and cultural encounters.

Wine Plus: Great quality for a good price. Characteristic locale that occasionally hosts artistic exhibits

Vin Cafè, Alba

Okay, so the city of Alba isn’t exactly in the wine zone of Barbaresco, but – if we’re splitting hairs – its outlier town (called a frazione) of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio does fit within the Barbaresco borders. For this reason, Vin Cafè can be part of our selection, and it certainly earns its place. Although surrounded by beautiful historical buildings instead of encircled by vineyards, its wine list is long and features Barbaresco and Piemontese wines, as well as from other regions of Italy. Vin Cafè is always popular and its doors remain open long after surrounding businesses close their shutters. Enter the wine bar and descend to the lower level to discover the medieval heart of Alba. Did you come on an empty stomach? Perfect: Vin Cafè is famous for its buffet of warm and cold dishes like salami, focaccia, cheeses, and many other delicious pickings.

Wine Plus: Situated in the historical center of Alba, this is a lively and popular wine bar with a great food selection.
